I study history through everyday things. My current book project is tentatively titled Confined to Crutches”: The Material Culture of Physical Disability in Early America. I am also working on a complimentary exhibition and digital project. This research explores the experience and meaning of disability in early America using archival sources as well as objects in museum collections. I give talks on and lecture regularly about this as well as past research.
